Our Adult Education Program provides low-income women with the opportunity to complete their secondary education and learn valuable skills that empower them to become leaders in their home and community. The classes run 5 days a week, 6 hours a day, for the entire school year. This program works together with our Early Childhood Education Program to provide preschool and childcare while mothers are in school, and allows moms the chance to practice parenting skills in the preschool classroom setting.
Adelante Mujeres' Adult Education Program uses a "popular" or "experiential" education model (education of the people) that relies heavily on class participation, and places academic learning within the context of the lives of the low-income Latina women who attend the program.
Our Adult Education classes include:
- English Language Development
- GED preparation (basic, math, computer, science, social studies, reading and writing in Spanish)
- Budgeting/Personal Finance Classes
- Job Readiness Training
- Parenting Classes
- Civic Engagement Training
- Nutritional Education
- Workshops on Forgiveness and Conflict Resolution
