    Volunteer or Intern with Adelante Mujeres

    Adelante Mujeres counts on the dedication and support of volunteers to ensure that our programs run smoothly, and that our organization continues evolving and responding to the needs of the community.

    Thanks to the diversity of our program activities, we offer a wide range of volunteer opportunities to:

    • Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers alike
    • Students and professionals
    • Individuals and groups – offices, teams, church groups, families, etc. are all encouraged to contact us about opportunities to be involved

    We welcome volunteers to work with us on an ongoing basis, or to attend a one-time volunteer event or activity.

    Winter & Spring 2016 Volunteer Opportunities 

    March 13th Convivio Farmer Potluck Childcare, Setup & Teardown

    Schedule:  Sunday, March 13th, 2016 - Childcare needed from 5:30PM - 8:00PM, Setup 5PM – 5:30PM, Interpreter: 5:45PM-8PM, Teardown runs from 8:00PM -8:45PM 

    Position Description: Our Convivio potluck is a great place for our Sustainable Agriculture students and farmers to get together, share great food, get to know one another, and discuss community concerns and best farming practices. We are looking for volunteers to help with setup and teardown and volunteers to help with childcare during the event. In general Spanish skills are preferred but not required.  The majority of our students and their children speak Spanish. We are also looking for a bilingual person to translate for a few English speakers who will attend.

    Location:  Iglesia Adventista - Spanish Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1165 SE Walnut St. Hillsboro, OR

    Community Garden Volunteer

    Frequency:  1-2 Days per Week

    Schedule: Flexible weekday schedule

    Position Description:  Come help us build our Community Garden's Demonstration Plot and make it a wonderful, productive teaching tool for our students!

    Location:  The community garden is located in Forest Grove at 2301 Maple Street (At the end of the neighborhood behind Bi Mart and McMenamins.)

    Supervisor:  Jamie Neavill, Food Access Educator

    Childcare During Sustainable Agriculture Classes

    Frequency:  1 Day Per Week

    Schedule: Monday Nights, 6:30PM to 9PM, Classes run from January 11-2016 - April 20th, 2016

    Position Description: Love cute kids? Tend to tots while their parents learn about sustainable agriculture! Materials and curriculum are provided.  Spanish skills are preferred but not required (many of our students and their families speak Spanish). By providing childcare, you are giving families the opportunity to learn skills that will help them grow healthy, sustainable vegetables for years to come!

    Supervisors:  Jamie Neavill, Food Access Educator and Alejandro Tecum, Sustainable Agriculture Program Director

    Office Assistant Volunteer

    Frequency:  1-2 Days per Week

    Schedule: Flexible, Weekdays between the hours of 10AM – 4PM

    Position Description:  Help in the Adelante Mujeres office completing filing, organization of materials and other objects in the office, sorting mail, assisting in completing large mailing projects, and other duties as assigned.  If the volunteer can work long-term and has availability, there would be the opportunity to perform light data entry, and also to perform reception work on a regular schedule. 

    Chicas Facilitator Assistant

    Commitment: At least one full school semester or one full school year/1-2 days per week

    Schedule:  Sessions are typically 90 minutes long, scheduled between 2:30PM, one day per week.

    Location:  Schools in Forest Grove and Hillsboro

    Work with our amazing Chicas students while you assist our site facilitator in organizing and leading educational, exciting and fun after-school sessions for Latina youth! You will get to know our students, and be in charge of supervision, taking attendance, snack set-up and distribution, and clean-up of the school site each week. You will also be asked to attend at least one parent gathering where you will get to know our students' families. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

    Cornell Estates Volunteer Leader & Community Liaison

    Schedule: Third Tuesday of each month, 10:00AM, Additional work flexible

    Location: Cornell Estates Retirement and Assisted Living in Hillsboro

    Position Description:  Organize volunteer work completed by the retirees at Cornell Estates in Hillsboro and foster their relationship with our Adult Education and Early Childhood Education students.  Help to gather materials, organize and lead the residents of Cornell Estates as they prepare classroom materials for our preschool students.  Coordinate visits by our Adult Education students for language exchange and visits by our preschool students to get to know the residents at Cornell Estates.  Other opportunities may include helping Cornell residents read aloud to record books for “Raise a Reader” and planning activities the residents and our students can do together.

    Childcare during Empresas Small Business Development Class

    Schedule:  Tuesday evenings, 6PM – 8PM

    Location:  Beaverton Activities Center, 12500 SW Allen Blvd. Beaverton

    Love cute kids? Tend to tots while their parents learn about small business development! Supervise and entertain children from the ages of 3 – 10 years old.  Bring your ideas for games and activities for all to enjoy! Spanish skills are preferred but not required (many of our students and their families speak Spanish).  By providing childcare, you are giving these families an opportunity to learn skills that will help them achieve financial stability and independence!
