Adult education program

Our Adult Education Program provides low-income women with the opportunity to complete their secondary education and learn valuable skills that empower them to become leaders in their home and community. The classes run 5 days a week, 6 hours a day, for the entire school year. This program works together with our Early Childhood Education Program to provide preschool and childcare while mothers are in school, and allows moms the chance to practice parenting skills in the preschool classroom setting.

Our Adult Education classes include:

  • English Language Development
  • GED preparation (basic, math, computer, science, social studies, reading and writing in Spanish)
  • Budgeting/Personal Finance Classes
  • Job Readiness Training
  • Parenting Classes
  • Civic Engagement Training
  • Nutritional Education
  • Workshops on Forgiveness and Conflict Resolution

EArly childhood education program

Early Childhood Education (ECE) is a bilingual program that teaches early literacy skills and builds kindergarten readiness among Latino immigrant preschool aged children of women participating in our Adult Education program. We currently operate 7 ECE classrooms that include certified preschool and head start programs.

EMPRESAS SMALl business program

Empresas teaches entrepreneurs through a ten-week business development course, taught in Spanish, that covers the foundations of business plan creation and business administration, from registering a company to setting up a marketing and operations system. The current course runs once in the Spring and once in the Fall.

ESPERE

ESPERE helps people resolve conflict to reduce the chance of escalation, manage anger and its impact on everyday encounters, and learn how the traditional cycle of anger and revenge differs from nontraditional forms of justice that truly restore healthy relationships.

Sustainable agriculture course

This 12 week series, taught in Spanish, covers topics like farming techniques, life in the soil, soil building, soil conservation, cover crops, green manure, seed starting, irrigation systems, weed, pest and disease management, and more. Throughout the class we emphasize the importance of soil building, soil conservation, and the avoidance of chemical additives. We stress the value of protecting the health of farmers, consumers, and the earth. We also teach our students the excess mechanization can do to the soil and the harm that agrochemicals causes to humanity and the environment.

farm business course

This is a 6 week course for graduates of the Sustainable Agriculture Course who are interested in starting or expanding their farm business. Topics include: business plan development, crop planning and cost, risk management, and marketing.
