Our Adult Education Program is dedicated to empowering low-income Latina women through learning in order to positively impact the entire family.

Adult Education gives our students the opportunity to pursue a holistic education, including coursework in English Language Development, mathematics, grammar, parenting, and conflict resolution. 

Our Adult Education Program works hand in hand with our Early Childhood Education Program to provide preschool and childcare while mothers are in school.

Volunteer Opportunities with Adult Education

Computer Literacy Tutor/Classroom Assistant
Required Skills: Computer skills, knowledge of social media, Spanish language skills
Schedule: Monday & Tuesday 10:15AM - 11:35AM (possibly with preparation hours outside of class)
Minimum Commitment: We ask for a mnimum 2 month commitment.
Description: Support the Adult Education Instructor to provide one on one tutoring in basic word processing skills, internet search engines, e-mail, social media, safe internet surfing, etc.


English Language Development Classroom Assistant
Required Skills: Ability to work one on one or in a small group with adult beginning learners of English as a Second Language. Basic understanding of English grammar, Reliability, Patience, Interest in other cultures, Some Spanish skills are helpful, but not necessarily required
Minimum Commitment: We ask for a minimum 2 month commitment.  
Description: Practice specific skills with adult English language learners, giving them extra practice with basic skills in speaking, understanding and writing. Encouraging students to believe in themselves is an important part of this position.


GED Tutor
Required Skills: Understanding of GED Level math, Proficiency in Spanish, Reliability, Patience
Minimum Commitment: 1-3 months
Description: Help a Spanish speaker work towards passing the math and writing portions of the GED.  Math levels range from primary to high school. Work with groups of 1 - 3 students during classroom time.


Math Classroom Assistant
Required Skills:  Facility with basic grade/high school mathematics, Ability to work one on one with adult students, Reliable,  Spanish skills desired, but not necessarily required
Minimum Commitment: 3 months
Description: Assist the instructor by working one on one with adult students as they master basic mathematics in preparation for GED and life-skills. 


Math Tutor
Required Skills: Understanding of GED Level math, Proficiency in Spanish, Reliability, Patience  
Flexible Schedule.
Minimum Commitment: 1-3 months
Description: Help a Spanish speaker work towards passing the math portion of the GED.  Math levels range from primary to high school. Meet on a schedule and location convenient to you and your partner. We'll help you pair up with one of our students.


Intercambio Language Exchange
Flexible schedule.
Minimum Commitment:  1-3 month
Description: Want to learn Spanish and help an Adelante Mujeres participant learn English? Become an intercambio partner! We'll help you find a partner with a similar scheudle. Intercambio partners generally meet at a café or public library on their own and practice conversational skills in both English and Spanish.


Presenter
Flexible. This is usually a one-time commitment.
Description: The leadership class at Adelante Mujeres gives women real-life experience in a various areas of interest. Lead a group of Adelante Mujeres students in a leadership or real-life topic of your expertise.
