Our 2016 Markets run from May 4th - October 26th, from 4PM - 8PM, on Main Street in downtown Forest Grove.

Forest Grove Farmers Market Volunteer Positions

Due to the busy and bustling nature of our evenings at the market, we cannot guarantee that volunteers will be placed in desired positions.  Although we do our best to assign volunteers to their desired tasks, please bring your can-do attitude, adaptability, and bright smile!

FGFM Office Assistant
Thursdays, 10AM - 12PM, Flexible weekday schedule also available
Volunteers Needed: 1-2 volunteers each week
Job Description: Work in our Forest Grove Farmers Market team and support healthy and local food systems! We are seeking a volunteer who is detail-oriented to help us count and record our Forest Grove Farmers Market tokens as well as our SNAP, WIC, and FDNP benefit vouchers. Strong data entry skills required - our numbers must be exact! BONUS: Practice your Spanish! 
Frequency: Once a week during FGFM season, looking for a volunteer who can come consistently for at least one month


Setup
Weds, 2:00PM - 4:00PM
Volunteers needed: 2-4 people
Frequency: One time, Weekly, Monthly or All Season Long
Job description: We need your help to make the market happen! Our setup volunteers unload equipment and help set up tents, tables, chairs, barriers and signs. Without these objects in place, there would be no market!  You may also get your daily dose of exercise, as this position requires the physical ability to lift, carry and/or pull large equipment. **We really need assistance during setup and teardown***


Market Sprouts Kids Club
Weds, 3:30PM - 6:30PM or 6:30PM - 8:30PM  
Volunteers needed: 2-3 people per shift
Frequency: One time, Weekly, Monthly or All Season Long
Job description: Market Sprout provides fun and educational activities for kids. Market Sprouts activities introduce kids to nutritious foods, inspire them to eat local and empower them to make healthy choices. This summer, we are looking for volunteers who can help coordinate and facilitate this program.  Market Sprouts volunteers assist us by planning creative Sprouts activities and leading those activities by providing instructions, gathering materials, and recruiting kids and families from the market crowd to participate.*


Greeter/Goodwill Ambassador
Weds, 4:00PM-6:00PM or 6:00PM-8:00PM
Volunteers needed: 2 people per shift
Frequency: One time, Weekly, Monthly or All Season Long
Job description: Our Farmers Market Ambassador is the most popular person at the party! This volunteer will mingle with the market go-ers to answer questions and point people toward activities, such as the kid's booth, entertainment, demonstrations and special events.  You will watch vendors' booths when they need short breaks, pass out flyers, and assist seniors, disabled customers and others to carry their market purchases.  In addition, you will help Adelante Mujeres track crowd counts and market assessment surveys so we know how we are doing!*


Information Booth
Weds, 4:00PM-6:00PM or 6:00PM-8:00PM
Volunteers needed: 2 people per shift
Frequency: 2 month commitment required.
Job description: Be in the know and spread the info! At the info booth, you will greet shoppers, answer questions, and direct people toward products and activities.  You will also assist with selling our popular Farmers Market t-shirts and tote bags, and answer questions about our EBT token program.  Volunteers also help us track info booth supplies, and get to meet a lot of new people! Although Spanish is not a requirement, this is a great opportunity to use your language skills.*
(Because this position requires special training, we ask for a minimum 2 month commitment.)


Recycling Center Volunteer
Weds, 3:30PM - 6:00PM or 6:00PM - 8:30PM
Volunteers needed: 1 - 2 per shift
Frequency: One time, Weekly, Monthly or All Season Long
Job description: Learn our recycling system and assist our Farmers Market "Master Recyclers" as we dispose of market waste in a sustainable manner.  Answer questions from market patrons about proper recycling, sort recycling, wash reusable dishes, and help the environment! This position requires the ability to carry plates and dishes and push a dish cart. *


Teardown
Weds, 8:00PM - 9:00PM
Volunteers needed: 2-4 people
Frequency: One time, Weekly, Monthly or All Season Long
Job description: Let's get Main Street back in order! Help us take down tents, tables, chairs and signs, and clean up our market mess by sweeping and picking up leftover trash.  Teardown is the perfect opportunity to bask in the afterglow of another beautiful Wednesday Farmers Market. You may also get your daily dose of exercise, as this position requires the physical ability to lift, carry and/or pull large equipment. **We really need assistance during set up and tear down**


Senior Market Advocate
Volunteers needed: 2-5 people
Frequency: One time, or multiple visits
Job description: Let's invite the whole community to our market, and that includes our elderly population.  Our Senior Market Advocate will make visits to retirement and assisted-living facilities to promote the FGFM. You will talk to individuals one-on-one, give presentations about the FGFM, and drop off pamphlets and materials.  You will also help disperse information and answer questions about using SNAP benefits and Senior FDNP vouchers at the Market. Seniors are encouraged to become Market Advocates!


Market Promotion
Volunteers needed: 2-10+ people
Frequency: One time/many times
Job description: Help spread the word about the FGFM!  Before and during the market season, help us promote the market by distributing flyers door-to-door, hanging up posters around town, and, of course, telling all your friends! Walking, driving, biking or roller skates will be necessary.
