Celebrating 3 Amazing Women on International Women's Day!

“The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you’re very courageous: be strong, be extremely kind, and above all, be humble.” - Serena Williams

It’s another year to celebrate International Women’s Day! For over 100 years, this holiday has honored women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. Its mission is to highlight activities that encourage women to pursue goals without bias or barriers.

This year we are highlighting the front-line responders, health professionals, community volunteers, transport and logistics managers, scientists and more — women who are making critical contributions to address the COVID-19 outbreak we have been living with for almost a year.

I’ve been reading the history of amazing women from around the world who have inspired and empowered us, and who have promoted equality and solutions for more gender-balance in all aspects of society. It made me think about the women in our Latino community that we serve every day here at Adelante Mujeres — women that balance family life along with their jobs, and who make a positive impact in our communities and their families.

At Adelante Mujeres, we celebrate the women that change the world with their ideas, courage, scarifies, and inspiration. This year, we want to recognize three incredible women who have made a difference in our community: Alba Luz Sullivan, Ingrid Solares, and Emma Greenawarld. We want to highlight the impact that these incredible leaders have had in our community during the COVID-19 crisis. They have helped to improve the quality of life for our community members, giving them resources and empowering others to get better jobs or better education.

Alba Sullivan

She’s been working with Latino families in an immigrant program in different positions for almost 35 years. She’s always had the intention of supporting our community.

Emma Greenawald

She’s been working at DHS for many years and works collaboratively with Adelante Mujeres on recruitment, support on community projects, and helping Latino families rise up.

Ingrid Solares

Ingrid is dedicated to working with under-served and vulnerable populations to help improve their quality of life. Her background and training are in strategic and structural family therapy and she has experience working with children, high-risk adolescents, and their families.

As we celebrate this day, we are hoping for more equality and a better future where women can rise up!
