Nourishing The Community, one class at a time.

All

We held our Produce Rx Graduation and end-of-the-season celebration at the beginning of November where we had 6 families graduate after completing 3 years of the program.

Part of the celebration is to share a potluck meal and we encourage the participants to share a healthy dish, either something they learned in the classes or something they made up. Out of all of the years we have coordinated a potluck, this year’s spread was, by far, the healthiest! Participants brought a variety of salads and zucchini noodles, and other vegetable dishes.

This November and December, we partnered with Familias en Acción to offer the Abuela, Mamá, y Yo (Grandmother, Mom, and Me) curriculum with our participants. After two of our staff members had taken the class and went to the training to teach the AMY curriculum, we thought it would be valuable information for our participants.

The women who attended appreciated the time to talk about how a child’s experience in the womb and in early life significantly affect a person’s short- and long-term health into adulthood. They found it interesting to learn that we may not be able to change our genes, but we can change racism, discrimination, and inequalities that negatively impact our genes and health.

“…we may not be able to change our genes, but we can change racism, discrimination, and inequalities that negatively impact our genes and health.”

We believe the information will help inspire the women to make healthier decisions and speak with their families about the impacts of personal health on the next generations of family.
