Call to Action – Together We Are Stronger

Adelante proudly stands with its Latine and immigrant community. We are acting courageously to ensure our communities thrive.  As a core partner, we want to share what’s at stake and highlight the key areas where we need support during these times.

What’s at Stake and Our Commitment

  • Immigration Services: Immigrant progress is vital to our society. We will continue providing programming that serves immigrants and refugees in all our departments: Education, Microenterprise, Leadership & Advocacy, and Health Equity. We recently reached an exciting milestone: recognition by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Access Programs! Click HERE to read more about our legal services

  • Education: Education is foundational to society. We will continue to provide excellent, culturally specific learning environments for our youngest community members in our early childhood classrooms. We empower Latine youth through our Chicas afterschool program, and we continue to support Latine women through English language development, GED and parenting classes.

Our community trusts us to provide life-changing programming throughout Washington County. We provide holistic services through 15+ programs, including mental health support, nutrition workshops, education assistance, business coaching, and access to markets.

What We Need

  • General Operating Funding: With support from our partners at the National Council of Nonprofits, we recommend that our funding partners redouble their efforts to strengthen and preserve community-based organizations by providing general operating funds.

  • Long-Term Investment/Multi-Year Grants: Adelante is committed to working alongside our community for the long term. We are a local, community-based organization that has effectively served its community through an uptick in hate crimes, a pandemic, and now deliberate attacks on immigrant families. We encourage funders to make long-term investments in these times of crisis in support of long-term sustainability.

  • Trust-Based Giving: Simplify the submission process of a funding ask and consider not requiring a final report of trusted community-based organizations. You can count on us to deliver transformational services.

These recommendations support the whole operations of Adelante Mujeres and other community-based organizations alike. This will ensure that our commitment to Latinas and immigrant families not only continues strong now but is sustained throughout this period of repressive tactics and harm. We welcome connecting with you in whatever way works. Please don’t hesitate to contact me or Andrea Chunga-Celis, Director of Development at achungacelis@adelantemujeres.org.

In Solidarity and Hope,
