Dreams Realized: Our Largest GED Graduation in a Decade
In June 2025, the Adult Education team at Adelante Mujeres celebrates a milestone that fills our hearts with pride: the largest GED graduation in the past ten years! This moment goes beyond numbers, it honors the dreams, determination, and resilience of adults who chose to believe in themselves.
Our program has evolved through deep listening and intentional change. After the pandemic, we expanded our approach: virtual classes, accelerated modules, and a structure designed to meet the real life rhythms of adult learners. These changes have helped more students earn their GEDs in a shorter time, without losing the warm, human support that defines who we are at Adelante.
We know that our participants balance work, family, and migration. And still, they choose to learn. Every decision we make as a team centers around how we can walk alongside them with compassion and respect.
Yasi Lemus, Adult Education Program Manager at Adelante Mujeres, highlighted:
“One of our proudest achievements is offering an algebra class, something truly unique in our community, where most programs only cover basic math. We go further, preparing our students for long-term success.”
A space for everyone
This year, we are proud to celebrate a deeply symbolic moment: the graduation of our first male student from the GED program. His presence, his journey, and his achievement “graduating with honors in math” show us what’s possible when education opens its doors to all who are ready. Through consistent outreach on social media, more men in our community have discovered they also have a place at Adelante Mujeres.
When an adult earns a GED, they don’t just receive a diploma. They build confidence, reclaim dreams, and step into their next chapter with pride. Many graduates have found better job opportunities, enrolled in college or technical programs, and become role models within their families.
As María Luisa Piñón, Coordinator of Adult Education Programs at Adelante Mujeres, shared:
“We simply walk with them. The strength and dedication … that’s all theirs.”
We are deeply grateful to the Hillsboro School District and Beaverton Foursquare Church for opening their doors to host our classes. These partnerships allow us to extend our reach and continue growing in connection with the communities we serve.
