Immigrant Solidarity Program Ambassadors

The Immigrant Solidarity Program has become a space of learning, connection, and empowerment for community ambassadors. Their experiences reflect a shared truth: when information is shared with care, it strengthens individuals, families, and entire communities.

For many ambassadors, this role has been deeply meaningful both personally and collectively, offering both practical tools and profound personal transformation.

Our Solidarity Program ambassadors describe their work as an opportunity to accompany community members facing uncertainty, fear, and misinformation related to their immigration status. From this space, they have been able to guide, listen, and connect people with resources that support informed decision-making and protection.

“From that space, I have been able to guide, listen, and connect people with resources that help them protect themselves and make informed decisions.” - María

A central theme across all their testimonies is the human impact of being heard and supported, and how this restores dignity and hope.

“When a person feels heard and supported, they recover part of their dignity and hope.” - María

The Immigrant Solidarity Program has also strengthened leadership, resilience, and a deeper understanding of community responsibility, reinforcing the importance of shared knowledge as a tool for collective empowerment. Our ambassadors also highlight how the experience expands personal identity and reconnects them with their own lived history and values.

“This process has also allowed me to grow as a person. It has helped me recognize my own migrant story, value my roots, and reaffirm my commitment to continue working for the wellbeing and dignity of our community.” - María

Beyond personal transformation, the program has created space for connection, learning, and collaboration with other women leaders in the community.

“It has allowed me to meet and interact with many powerful women and great community leaders, increasing my friendships and connections.” - Alili

They also emphasized gaining practical knowledge and tools to better support others, from understanding processes to communicating community needs.

“I have learned about processes, presentations, community support groups, my ability to handle legal details, how to write testimonies and letters to the editor, and how to support as an immigration observer.” - Alili

The experience has strengthened confidence and personal resilience:

“I have discovered much more strength and ability in myself than I thought I had.” - Rosario

At the same time, the program is helping them move from isolation to connection, especially for those previously engaged in community work alone.

“Before being part of this group, I felt very lonely and isolated in community work and advocacy; the program made me feel connected.” - Anabertha

They also emphasized the importance of learning about rights and legal protections for immigrant communities.

“I realized that there are laws that protect us as immigrants and that we can enforce those rights even in difficult times like the ones we are experiencing now.” - Luz

The Immigrant Solidarity Program is also about service, compassion, and supporting families in different areas of need.

“We are in contact with families who need support in different areas of life… it feels meaningful to bring compassion.” - Lucía

Across all of them, a shared message emerges: being an ambassador is about turning lived experience into action, and information into collective strength.

“Information is power. Being an ambassador means ensuring that this power reaches my community.” - Francis
