Adelante Mujeres Featured in New OMSI Climate Exhibition
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) recently opened the Nancy Stueber Natural Sciences Hall featuring Climate of Change / Clima de Cambio, a new permanent exhibition that explores the relationship between people and the environment. Grounded in stories from communities across Oregon, the exhibition highlights resilience, collaboration and innovation in the face of climate change.
Adelante Mujeres is featured in the Voices of Change Theater in the exhibition. The short film entitled “Cultivating a Healthy Community” shows how Adelante Mujeres is helping families learn to care for the land, and to grow and share healthy food.
“Our community has always understood that caring for the land means caring for one another. At Adelante Mujeres, we educate and empower Latine farmers and families who lead with both innovation and tradition. Growing food in ways that honor the earth. Reducing emissions. Nourishing our communities,” said Bridget Cooke, Adelante Mujeres Co-Founder and Executive Director. “We’re proud to be included in this exhibit that uplifts powerful, community-driven solutions. It reminds us all that the path forward is rooted in connection, culture, and collective action.”
This exhibition about climate change has been something our participants have been working toward for several years. Adelante Mujeres participated in Voces de Esperanza (Voices of Hope), a collaboration with OMSI and AB Cultural Drivers to help shape the direction for the current exhibition. Our community leaders brought their voices, stories, and hopes into conversations about climate change, how our Spanish-speaking Latine families engage with it, and how to create a more inclusive climate education. We are excited to see it come to fruition and encourage families to go!
