May Day 2026

On May 1st, staff from Adelante Mujeres, alongside program participants, families, and community members, joined hundreds of people across Oregon to commemorate May Day. This historic day continues to serve as a powerful platform for immigrant workers, families, and their allies to raise their voices in support of dignity, safety, opportunity, and justice for all.

Singing Resistance PDX Group

The day began at Shute Park, where community members gathered in solidarity before heading to Salem. We were joined by the group Singing Resistance, who shared songs of encouragement and support as our team boarded the bus. Their presence helped create a meaningful and uplifting atmosphere, reminding everyone that collective care and community strength are at the heart of movements for justice and belonging.

Once in Salem, community members from across the state came together for a peaceful march filled with unity, resilience, and hope. Throughout the day, there was a strong sense of support and solidarity among participants, with families, workers, advocates, and allies standing side by side to uplift immigrant voices and call for a future rooted in dignity and opportunity for all. The march also served as a moment to honor the resilience, leadership, and countless contributions immigrant communities bring to our workplaces, neighborhoods, and local economies. At the same time, it highlighted the ongoing challenges many families continue to face, including barriers to economic opportunity, access to resources, workplace protections, and pathways to stability.

At Adelante Mujeres, we believe that when immigrant families are supported, entire communities thrive. Participating in May Day reflects our continued commitment to uplifting community voices, advocating for equity and inclusion, and creating spaces where all people feel seen, valued, and empowered.

Together, we stand in solidarity for a future where every individual has the opportunity to live, work, and lead with dignity and respect.
